"NYPD Blue" Alum Kim Delaney Arrested on Suspicion of Felony Assault After Alleged Domestic Dispute with Partner
Los Angeles, India - Kim Delaney, the Emmy-winning actress best known for her role as Detective Diane Russell in the acclaimed television series "NYPD Blue," was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of felony assault following an alleged domestic dispute with her partner, James Morgan.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance at Delaney's residence in the Marina Del Rey area around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025. According to a statement from the Sheriff's Department, an investigation was conducted, leading to the arrest of both Delaney and Morgan.
Delaney, 63, was booked on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon. Her partner, James Morgan, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence.
Law enforcement sources, as reported by TMZ, indicated that the incident followed a "heated argument that turned physical." Paramedics were called to the scene to assess any potential injuries. After being medically cleared, both Delaney and Morgan were taken into custody.
Delaney was booked on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. local time, according to the inmate information website of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. While Morgan was reportedly released later on Saturday after posting a $20,000 bond, Delaney remained in custody as of Sunday evening.
Both Delaney and Morgan are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday at the LAX Courthouse.
This is not the first time Delaney has faced legal issues. The actress has a history of struggles with alcohol. In 2002, she was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving in Malibu and subsequently pleaded no contest, receiving two years of probation. The following year, she entered a rehabilitation center. In 2005, she reportedly lost custody of her teenage son due to driving while intoxicated. Delaney was most recently sued in 2022 for an alleged hit-and-run incident. Delaney garnered widespread recognition and an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Detective Diane Russell on "NYPD Blue," a role she held from 1995 to 2003. She has also starred in other popular television shows, including "All My Children," "The O.C.," "Army Wives," "CSI: Miami," and "Chicago Fire."
Representatives for Kim Delaney have yet to issue a public statement regarding the arrest.
The alleged incident comes just months after Delaney and Morgan reportedly celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary in October 2024, with both sharing affectionate posts on social media.
The arrest of the veteran actress has already begun to generate significant media attention, prompting discussions about domestic disputes and the challenges faced by public figures. More information regarding the alleged incident is anticipated to emerge during the legal proceedings.
